Endodontic Surgery

Endodontic surgery is one of the more commonly performed procedures in dentistry, and with modern techniques and technology, it is usually successful.

At Victor Valley Endontics, our team of endodontists has years of specialized training and experience. Many of our patients are amazed at the relative ease of the procedure and the lack of pain, prompting many to wish they had not waited so long to undergo treatment. During an initial consultation, one of our endodontists will review your case and determine if endodontic surgery is right for you.

Endodontic Surgery – The Procedure

There are various surgery options in endodontics but the most common is known as an apicoectomy. This may be needed to eliminate infection or pain from the root apex (root end) and usually in combination with removal of periapical tissue.

There are several reasons why a tooth may need endodontic surgery:

  •     Persistent infection and/or pain that does not subside
  •     Root cracks
  •     Chronic tissue and/or a cyst
  •     Extremely narrow, curved or blocked canals that cannot be
        reached from above
  •     Extra canals or unique anatomy
  •     Repair- attempt to fix problems that occurred during the
        routine root canal treatment
